NEC 2400 SMDR setup and CDR format

This page shows how to get call records out of the NEC 2400 into Advanced PBX Data Logger: the connection settings, the parser to select and the 13 fields the logger extracts for reports or a database. The settings apply to our logger; other call accounting software may expect a different configuration.

Switching SMDR output on, as documented

ASYD Index 32 Bit 7 must be set to enable SMDR service
ASYD System Data 2 Index 3 Bit 0 must be set to enable SMDR service
ASFC assign Service Feature Class SFI 14 to enable SMDR for trunk calls
ARTD CDN 10 (SMDR) must be set per route to enable SMDR
ASYD Index 34 Bit 0 enables RS232C output for SMDR
ASYDL Index 576 Bit 2 selects RS232C or LAN as the SMDR interface type

Record format notes

Record header bytes are fixed: System Address is always '0', Unit Address is always '!', matching the page's '0!K...' sample prefix
'K' after the '0!' header identifies the line as an SMDR record
KA = Outgoing call, Normal Format, fixed length 131 characters, Serial RS232C only
KB = Station-to-Station call, Normal Format (matches the page's '0!KB' sample line)
KE = Incoming call, Normal Format (matches the page's '0!KE' sample lines)
Only 'Flexible Format' (KK/KL/KM) records support LAN/TCP-IP output; Normal Format (KA/KB/KE, shown in the page sample) is Serial RS232C only
Up to four SMDR collection devices ('0' through '3') can connect, each receiving identical records

Reports and a database

Once records arrive, the logger writes them to a text file or to any ODBC database in real time, or hands them to the PBX Reports utility for manual, scheduled and e-mailed reports with a built-in web server. See exporting call log data to a database for the database setup.
